A crisp chill is starting to creep into the evening air. Leaves are on the verge of shedding their deep emerald hue. Autumn is right at our doorstep. The anticipated change of season sparked our inspiration to launch a new blog series called “Art Stories.” We received such an enthusiastic response that we’re able to feature a different artist every week. We’re delighted to introduce Kelly Sooter as our second artist for September.
Kelly Sooter, a native Washingtonian, draws her inspiration from nature. She spent her childhood wandering through the forests of Eastern Washington and later lived in rugged Southern Utah. Her two beloved homes are the focal point of her artwork, creating a striking contrast of lush green and arid sceneries. Sooter’s latest exhibition “COMING HOME” features a stunning collection of contemporary oil landscapes. Each painting invites the viewer to wander down its path or stream in search of peace, hope, and beauty on the horizon. The talented artist passionately describes them as “landscapes that call you home.”
Sooter studied for several years under experienced artists from Norway and Russia. Her European-based apprenticeship taught her that “light comes from darkness.” This tool has not only impacted her artwork, but has been a powerful reminder to seek her inner strength and hope. Sooter’s art combines color, form, and emotion to communicate a valuable life lesson: that we can find peace and joy in the daily journey.
Sooter’s artwork is on display at Capers Home & Gift in West Seattle until October 29th. Capers is hosting two ‘Meet and Greet’ events this fall. You can also see her paintings in local art galleries (Twisp and Ellensburg) as well as nationwide (Petaluma, CA and Scottsdale, AZ). Please visit her website and social media pages for more details.
